Currently 75% of the York University community takes alternative transportation*. The remaining single occupancy driving share can be further reduced by a significant amount. York has developed its own Sustainability Strategy where indirect carbon emissions from transportation is targeted*. As part of the effort, the University intends to set specific targets for carbon emissions. Its ultimate goal will align with the intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Paris Agreement recommendation of 45% reduction by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050*. Implementing a resilient ridesharing program presents a valuable strategy for meeting these targets.
